General

What is the format of Swift India Conference?

During the conference day, there will be 15+ speakers giving 20-minute presentations each about various Swift topics such as Open-Source Swift, Server-Side Swift and Swift on Android, as well as using Swift for iOS, watchOS, and tvOS development, and any new platforms Apple will announce at their annual WWDC conference. There will also be a few presentations about other important career-related topics, such as design and workplace best practices.
In addition to 20-minute presentations, attendees will have the option to attend Q&A with each speaker.

I am a beginner. Is it ok for me to attend the conference? What can I expect from the conference and attendees?

Yes, you can. Some of our attendees are beginners. The conference will help accelerate your learning and make connections with others who have been in your shoes before (aka everyone!). We encourage all our attendees to keep a beginner’s mind and provide a friendly and harassment-free environment.

Where can I see the presentation topics?

We do make sure that all speakers present the latest and most relevant topics, so topics are usually not announced until about two months before the conference. And you can see the complete list of all presentation topics with the proper schedule on the website.

Speaker

Is there a CFP?

There is no CFP (call for proposal) for Swift India Conf. Speakers are hand-picked based on many factors to make sure we can put together the best conference for the community.

What is format of the talk, how much time I should take?

Prepare a talk that lasts 20 - 25 minutes.

What are the obligations if I have selected a speaker for Swift India Conf?

  • You consent to and agree to respect Swift India Conf’s Code of Conduct.
  • You consent to the publication of your photo, biography, talk description, any photos of you we make, recording of your talk (audio and video) and slides, by the organizer, on the conference website and other online services, for the purpose of conference promotion.
  • You agree to be available to perform a talk at the venue at latest.
  • You understand that the schedule published on the website isn’t final and that we may make last-minute schedule changes.
  • It is very desirable that you plan your travel to Bangalore at least a day before the first conference day and attend the speaker’s dinner (it’s on us!).
  • It’s not required, but you’ll miss loads of fun & opportunity to connect with other speakers if you pass.

Can I submit more than one talk to the Call For Proposals process?

In short, no - we only accept one talk proposal from each speaker candidate. One of our core values is finding highly valuable talks to be presented to our attendees. This means that we extensively vet each talk proposal. By setting this rule we would like to invite you to invest all you’ve got into your single proposal, and at the same time help us save some time in the selection process.
In case you have many ideas and a hard time figuring out what would fit the Swift India Conf best, we invite you to reach out before you submit your talk. We would be happy to advise you on what will suit our audience better.

What are the accepted topics and themes?

We believe that open space makes people more creative, so we are leaving the topic of the talk up to you. It is however important that your talk brings value to all groups of our attendees. This is a typical breakdown of our attendees. Developers - A developer who develops Apps for anyone of the Apple platform, it could be iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. 40 to 60% - Intermediate developers, 30% - Senior developers, 20% - Beginners or junior developers. In other words - this is a single-track conference, make your talk bring value to everyone. We suggest that your proposal follows the conference theme which is revolving around the intersection between iOS Application Development, Swift Programming Language, and new technologies introduced by Apple in previous years.

Do I get any compensation for speaking?

Swift India Conference doesn't support speakers financially. If it's a physical conference, we take the speakers to parties and road-trips. If the conference is online, we send cool goodies to speakers via courier.
